The Plant

Textual fact
After failing to stay awake, Gilgamesh is given a thorned plant of rejuvenation. A snake takes it while he bathes.
The plant is not immortality. It is youth again. He fetches it from the deep with stones on his feet. The snake takes the scent and the skin.
Uruk’s walls are what the poem asks you to look at when the plant is gone. Do not promote the snake into a symbol before the bath.
